IDSA Board to Welcome New Members

IDSA’s membership has spoken. The results of the 2016 election are in, and they show the Board of Directors will have several new members—or members who are changing or continuing in their positions—when the new Board term begins on May 1, 2016.

Megan Neese, IDSA, will be the new Chair-Elect. "I'm thrilled to be part of the incoming leadership team for this next term. There is so much great energy in the Society and groundwork being built to improve benefits from our biggest programs to our most nuanced website issues," she says. "I'm looking forward to the next few years of collaborating with members, stakeholders and leaders to understand, design and plan for our Society's future."

The senior manager at Future Lab, Nissan Motor Ltd. previously served as associate director at BMW Group DesignworksUSA; senior design strategist at Samsung Design America; and product planner at Nissan North America. As a consultant, her clients included John Deere, LG Electronics, Navistar and Direct TV. The Carnegie Mellon University Integrated Innovation Institute alumna has served in the following IDSA roles: Professional Interest Section Chair-Young Professionals (2010-2012), Board of Directors Section VP (2012–2014), At-Large Director (2014–2016) and Governance Taskforce Lead (2015–2016).

Paul Hatch, IDSA, will join the Board as At-Large Director; Scott Shim, IDSA becomes Education VP; Sean Hägen, IDSA, won a second term as Professional Interest Section VP; Ayse Birsel, IDSA—currently Education VP—will become the Northeast District VP; and Chris Brown, IDSA, will join the Board as Central District VP.

John Barratt, IDSA, president and CEO of TEAGUE, continues as Board Chair until he's succeeded by Neese in May 2017. "She represents the future of design," says Barratt of Neese. "She's a multi-talented, hybrid designer—this is the direction in which IDSA is heading. Having her chart our future path is very exciting. Megan joins an accomplished group of corporate leaders, consultants and educators on the Board, who are deeply committed to driving IDSA forward.”

Other Board members continuing in their current positions are: George Daniels, L/IDSA, Secretary/Treasurer; Rebecca Alvord, IDSA, Chapter VP; Jason Belaire, IDSA, West District VP; Chris Livaudais, IDSA, South District VP; and Marianne Grisdale, IDSA, Midwest District VP.

"I’m pleased to welcome new and returning members to IDSA’s Board of Directors," says IDSA Executive Director Daniel Martinage, CAE. "Our leadership team is now stronger and more diverse than at any other time in our 50+ years."

Martinage adds that the following members' time, service and dedication to the Board and to the Membership has been invaluable: Austen Angell, FIDSA, as former Board Chair and current Chair Emeritus; Jeevak Badve, IDSA, as Central District VP; Jeremy Van Hill, IDSA, as Northeast District VP; and Mieko Kusano, IDSA, as At-Large Director.
