IDSA’s Midwest District Design Conference (MWDDC) 2015 kicks off May 1 and continues through May 2 at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis.
"I’m excited about the experience we have created for the 2015 MWDDC,” declares MWDDC Chair and IDSA Midwest District Vice President Stephen Wurth. “We have 15 highly respected speakers who are going to offer an incredibly valuable perspective on the future of design and innovation, not to mention two killer parties planned at some of the hottest innovation spots in St. Louis!”
Wurth adds, it doesn't matter if you’re a student about to graduate or a seasoned professional. “I personally promise everyone will get value out of attending,” he insists.
Wurth, a design strategist for Nestle Purina Petcare Co., finds the landscape of design and innovation is changing. “As designers become more prominent and influential in the world, we must begin to fundamentally think differently about the products, services and overall experiences we strive to create for people.”
INTERSECTION will center on a common a framework that depicts “design innovation” at the intersection of business, technology and human values. The May 1 schedule begins with a welcome from IDSA Executive Director Daniel Martinage, CAE and “Three Fundamental Frameworks for Design Innovation” by Wurth.
Schattdecor’s Mark Smith will discuss “Design and Color Trends for Woodgrains”; Eastman Innovation Lab sponsors a Talent Networking Workshop; Chip Thole, IDSA member and General Motors design manager, delivers the first keynote address. But wait there’s more. A second keynote features Michael Brennan of United Way; a third keynote shines a spotlight on Patrick Whitney, dean of the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Then it’s time to roar! Don't forget to register for the Kickoff Party, hosted by the IDSA St. Louis Chapter. Beverages will be supplied by the experts at Anheuser-Busch InBev. The even is set for 7 to 10 pm at the downtown innovation hub T-Rex.
Saturday, May 2, begins with Student Merit Award Presentations and sessions on entrepreneurs, small businesses and corporations. At 5pm, attendees can check out an eagerly-awaited preview of the 50th Anniversary International Conference in Seattle with Chair Surya Vanka.
The Closing Party is set for 7pm at Venture Café, where “innovation is a social process.”
