An Enduring Relationship

IDSA + NASAD

In 1984, IDSA became a Professional Organization Affiliate of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the national accrediting agency for art and design and art and design-related disciplines. NASAD is an association of approximately 346 schools of art and design, primarily at the collegiate level, but also including postsecondary non-degree-granting schools for the visual arts disciplines. (Information regarding Professional Organization Affiliation may be found in the Bylaws of the NASAD [see NASAD 2015-16 Handbook, Article I., Section 6.; Article IV., Section 1.D.; and Rules of Practice and Procedure, Part II, Article I., Section 3.G.]).

IDSA is one of two NASAD Professional Organization Affiliates.  As a Professional Affiliate, IDSA routinely collaborates with NASAD regarding issues such as standards and procedures, which pertain to the accreditation of educational programs in industrial design. As an example, in 2012, through a rigorous review process, IDSA and its members provided comment and participated in shaping national standards for collegiate industrial design curricular programs.

Advancing the profession through education, information, community and advocacy, IDSA is a US-based, professional association for industrial design. “I can think of no better way for IDSA to advance its education initiatives—establishing a positive learning environment for aspiring industrial designers—than to continue our relationship with NASAD to ensure industrial design education programs remain cutting edge,” says IDSA Executive Director Daniel Martinage, CAE.
