IDSA STL Wraps Up 2014

Under its Chair Anthony Schmidt, the St. Louis chapter—IDSA STL—enjoyed a very active year with an astounding 14 events! Ranging from mixers to professional talks from then Midwest DVP, Michael Prince, and Aaron Scott, Midwest District Education Representative, to ID exposés at design week and design day celebrations, IDSA STL delivered in spades.

During the year, the chapter also placed extra emphasis on the student and young upcoming professional designer communities through a mentoring session, portfolio review and the highly regarded 4th Annual Student Bragging Rights Design Competition won this year by a team from the University of Kansas. With the support of the chapters’ other officers Brian Pelcak (Vice Chair), Joy Christensen (Public Relations Chair) and Sean Higgs and Jason Mills (Education Co-Chairs), Schmidt kept professional and business skill development on the forefront along with ample networking opportunities.

2014 was also a year to welcome Stephen Wurth as the new Midwest District Vice President role marked by our kickoff party at Metaphase on August 6 in his honor with special guest Aaron Scott presenting. Wurth was also the keynote speaker at this year’s IDSA-STL 4th Annual Student Bragging Rights Design Competition.

Throughout 2014, the IDSA STL chapter leadership team pulled together often over their free-time through lunches, evenings and weekends to ensure their events were engaging and well organized. Through their continued dedication they have begun to explore how to build on their 2014 successes to enable a meaningful 2015 within the professional industrial design chapter.
