Membership Categories

IDSA has been changing and is back on track, focused and financially sound. We are dedicated to you and supporting the promotion of Industrial Design to business.

IDSA represents the largest association of industrial designers in the world from many different countries and related fields. It is a vibrant, engaged membership that at its core is part of the product-creating design community.

Members have the opportunity get involved and help develop the profession of Industrial Design through a diverse number of outlets, including: leading and/or participating in activities at the chapter level; serving as experts in their area of expertise by running special interest sections; submitting an article for publication or a session for presentation at a conference; participating in competitions, portfolio reviews and mentoring.

At the national level, the member-elected Board of Directors represents the society and design at functions with government, the media, education, businesses and at international events. IDSA members are practitioners in both consulting and corporate design, design educators, affiliates in related fields, recent entrants into the design field and design students. Many members make valuable networking connections through the society that are life long. IDSA is a home for designers away from the pressures and intensity of business practice.

Membership Categories
Professional Membership- $375
Available to any citizen or resident of North America who has at least an undergraduate degree in industrial design or a related design discipline, and/or appropriate professional experience, and whose primary professional responsibility as a practitioner or educator is the industrial design of products, instruments, equipment, packages, transportation, environments, information systems or related design services.

International Membership- $375
International Membership shall be available to any designer who is neither a citizen nor a resident in North America. Foreign nationals who are degreed designers are eligible to hold IDSA Professional Membership status, with all the voting rights, during the term of their residence in the United States.

Young Professional Membership- $125
Available to young professionals for the first year following graduation.

Young Professional Membership- $250
Available to young professionals for the second through fifth years following graduation.

Student Membership- $50
Individual Student Membership in the Society shall be available to any college or university student in North America. They may identify themselves as "Student Member, IDSA." They may neither vote nor be elected as Officers or Chapter Officers.

Affiliate Membership- $375
Affiliate Membership shall be available to any individual not eligible for other forms of Membership in the Society (e.g., vendors serving the design industry, non-designers working for design firms or corporations, etc.).

Life Membership
Life membership shall be available to any individual retired from active design practice who has been a Professional Member of the Society for the ten consecutive preceding years.

There is no fee charged at this stage for Professional, International, or Young Professional membership. Following review of your application, you will be notified by email and sent a link to provide payment for your membership. Membership becomes effective following receipt of payment.
