Philip Assante became IDSA’s manager of membership and component relations in October 2016. Among other duties, he develops and implements plans to recruit, retain and enhance the IDSA member experience by working with professional and students chapters, sections, volunteers, the Board of Directors, IDSA staff, programs and events—while improving outreach and engagement to promote the value of membership through defined initiatives and leading excellent member service efforts. He is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
Assante served for six years in Washington, DC as director of member relations for the National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF), where he was responsible for projects including overall business development; membership recruitment and retention; and chapter management. At the trade association, he led national strategy to engage, grow and retain membership at the chapter level with a solutions-driven, collaborative style.
Previously, Assante honed his management and customer service skills working for two decades at one of the world’s largest insurance companies—GEICO—where he led a unit that handled major catastrophic claims as well as all litigation, controlling reserves of tens of millions of dollars. In fact, Assante was recognized by GEICO senior management for his leadership skills.
Assante earned a bachelor’s degree from Marist College in upstate New York. He took up tournament fishing and became a fan of spring training baseball games during his years in Florida. But he’s originally from Queens in New York City—and remains loyal to the Giants, Yankees, Rangers and Knicks. Most of all, he loves spending time with his four children.
