Mark Guarraia, IDSA

In my two years serving as the Chair of IDSA Rhode Island, I have had so many great experiences. It is by getting more involved with IDSA that I have learned so much about its value to its members and to the industry. I originally ran for office with the intention of bringing more resources to RI’s creative community, and I have since worked closely with the RI team, local businesses, and educators to do so.

I am very fortunate to have been involved with the planning of the 2011 Northeast District conference, held in Providence. I worked with Marco Perry and his team to secure venues and speakers, and also made sure to showcase many of the city’s greatest features – through information and events. It was in doing this that I was truly exposed to Marco’s role within the organization and region.
I would like to follow Marco’s lead, and help to grow the Northeast representation. We have great cities, great schools, and great businesses. We need to do all that we can to enable these entities to talk and work with each other more closely, and IDSA can be a catalyst.

Aside from my work at Ximedica, I also serve as an adjunct professor at both RISD and MassArt. This enables me to get a feel for student involvement and interest, and helps my chapter in coordinating meaningful events and programs.

Finally, I am interested in the position as it will enable me to work within a broader team. My interest in the Northeast District position is under the assumption that the role is supported by other people within the industry and within the organization. I am always looking to meet and work with new people, and I am consistently impressed with the wealth of local talent. It is with the support of these people that my role within the organization will have the most impact.

BIO

Is currently a Human Factors Industrial Designer at Ximedica - Providence, RI. He is also adjunct industrial design faculty at both the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) - Providence, RI and Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) - Boston, MA. He volunteers and mentors in the community, in addition to serving as the current IDSA Chapter Chair for Rhode Island. Mark was very involved with the planning of the 2011 NED conference, and genuinely looks forward to new challenges.  Mark is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design.
