The Impact of Design on Stock Market Performance

In February of 2004 the British Design Council published an important study on the impact of Design on Stock Market performance. This is a must have presentation of an important factual study that you can and should use to develop your pitch to clients on the value that design can bring to their corporation.

The main finding of the study was that the 63 companies studied as effective users of design outperformed the FTSE 100 Index companies by 200%. These companies outperformed the index companies at all points during the 10 year period, regardless of whether it was in a bull or bear phase of the market.

The study is for UK based companies, but there is no reason to believe that it would not apply to US companies as the dynamic of design is not regional, but rather global.

There is a study being conducted in the United States at present to evaluate if these findings are the same here and we will publish it as soon as we are allowed to by the authors.

For the complete study results download the attached report from the Design Council.
