LLC The goal of the Gyrus Diego Powered Dissector Research was to inspire a design of a surgical handpiece for otolaryngological (ENT) surgery. The evaluative research technique was done with eight surgeons and their support teams aimed at understanding the performance of various design concepts during realist surgical mock-ups through an online forum and contextual usability tests. Research not only consisted of written documentation, but many hours of video and about 1,000 still photographs categorized into various frameworks. "The research for the Gyrus Diego Powered Dissector, a surgical handpiece for otolaryngological (ENT) surgery, is exemplary in two respects. It demonstrates how the integration of research and design can be mutually beneficial throughout the design development process. It also shows how a small group of expert ENT surgeons participated directly in the design development process from the early exploratory contextual observations through usability evaluation.
