Getting the right fit for a bicycle helmet is critical for comfort and safety, but not very practical from a retailer's standpoint. Instead of the somewhat ineffective sizing pads usually used, the startup Sportscope came up with the idea of segmenting the helmet to allow it to conform to the user's head. The Flex-Fit is available in just three sizes--toddler, child and adult--but provides a more comfortable and protective fit than standard helmets. "Products that fit. Isn't that what we all wish for? The idea of a segmented inner structure to protect our variously sized heads is an intuitive and significant innovation that could have applications in other sports products. The minimal exterior focuses our attention on safety. That the outside is not sexy or fancy is right on the mark. The message is: Like our heads, it's what's on the inside that counts." -Dan Klitsner, IDSA, Klitsner Industrial Design Inc |
