In the field of design there are many competitions, but only the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) is recognized as the preeminent international design competition and referred to as “the Oscars of Design.”

For 31 years, the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) has recognized design excellence in products, sustainability, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts and solidified its position as the preeminent international design competition. Not surprisingly, IDEA 2011 winners, like previous years’ winners, include designers and design teams widely recognized as leaders in the field, newcomers, young designers, rising stars and businesses who understand the value of exceptional design.

Earlier this year, the independent 2011 IDEA jury, 20 world-renowned design experts and thinkers, spent weeks evaluating thousands of international entries from 39 nations including record student submissions online. Then on April 6, the jury convened at Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI for two-and-a-half days of careful hands-on judging and evaluation, emerging April 8 with their choices for the coveted  IDEA 2011 Gold, Silver, Bronze and Best in Show.

On June 30, 2011 the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) will announce the 2011 Gold, Silver and Bronze winners and finalists and launch the IDEA 2011 gallery on IDSA.org with photos and information about the winners who passed this tough selection procedure with distinction!

This year IDSA is saving the best for last. IDEA’s highest distinction, Best in Show, will be unveiled and presented live at the IDEA 2011 Awards Ceremony on Sept. 17, 2011 at the beautiful Roosevelt Hotel, New Orleans. The IDEA Ceremony and annual gallery of IDEA winners are sure to be highlights of the 2011 IDSA International Conference, COMMUNITY: You.Me.We. attended by 800 to 1,000 design professionals, business leaders, educators, students and international media

In addition to unveiling the IDEA 2011 Best in Show winners, IDSA will also exclusively announce and present The People’s Choice Award, Judges Award and first-ever winner of IDEA Responsibility Award live at the IDEA 2011 Ceremony. Reflecting the industry’s commitment to responsible design, the IDEA Responsibility Award, is conferred upon the finalist and award-winning designs deemed most responsible to society, economy, environment and culture.
