At IDSA’s 2014 Western District Design Conference, a fantastic group of featured keynotes and other top-notch presenters inspired us to Run with the Bulls. We examined the current design culture and dove into issues that designers face both domestically and internationally when they strive for perfection while simultaneously being told to fail hard, often and fast. Our experts shared some thoughts on how you can best position yourself to innovate and exceed these expectations, whether you’re just starting out in the industry or are a seasoned professional.
We discussed how to:
- Master the fundamentals before rushing off to the design table while still staying competitive in this most competitive of design fields;
- Avoid the danger of jumping into design solutions prematurely before you really have a chance to understand the problem;
- Prepare yourself for the challenges ahead and take measured risks that bring tremendous rewards; and
- Knock it out of the park the first time at bat while also daring to test your prowess and take chances.
The conference included practical workshops led by some of the top minds in the design industry, along with in-depth discussions on what it takes to make it in the industry. Plus, attendees enjoyed pre-conference networking events, Student Merit Awards presentations and a portfolio review.
