Conference Forum Themes
Threads of focus throughout the conference will place particular attention on issues at the forefront of design education.

Interactive Design Forum (PDF)
The Interactive Design Forum for Industrial Design Educators will explore the role of intelligent products and systems as technology moves off the desktop and begins to play a more pervasive role in our lives. Presentations will provide insight into relevant interactive technology and lifestyle related issues for enhancing the traditional industrial design curriculum. This forum will be of particular interest to educators who are seeking strategies and opportunities to introduce the design of interactive products for work, play and everyday life into the curriculum to complement more traditional industrial design.

For more information, download the Interactive Design Forum (PDF) information sheet.

The Collaborative Learning Forum will showcase examples of interdisciplinary team projects combining students of business, engineering, and design, including:

  • The results of the P&G Collaborative
  • Teaching students how to manage innovation at INSEAD, Paris, and Art Center College of Design

The Methods and Tools Forum will offer solutions that frequently elude junior faculty as well as provide inspiration for established educators:

  • The syllabus as a contract with the students
  • How junior faculty members obtain research funding
  • Reaching for tenure with the right stuff
  • The importance of building a reputation
  • How to handle difficult students and difficult team teachers
  • Strategic planning of design education
  • The tension between an assignment and the philosophy behind a program
