Education Council

Purpose

  1. Ensures the highest standard of industrial design education
  2. Actively maintains a liaison among all members of IDSA (especially those whose professional responsibility is industrial design education)
  3. Promotes and develop IDSA Student Chapters and activities
  4. Promotes Student Membership
  5. Consults with and makes recommendations to the Chair and the Board of Directors concerning education policies, planning and and other matters within the Society

Composition

  • A Chair - Education Vice President
  • Five (5) District Education Representatives from each of the five IDSA geographic areas of the US, whose professional responsibilities are in industrial design education and who holds a faculty appointment at the time of election
  • Three (3) practitioner members who do not hold a faculty appointment at the time of election.

Functions

  • Organize and conduct the Society's annual Education Conference under the leadership of the Education Vice President
  • Organize the Student Merit Award (SMA) competition as a national program. The District Education Representatives lead in their respective District and organize the SMA District level of the competition at the their respective District Design Conferences
  • Review applications and select the IDSA and Design Foundation scholarship winners annually
