Core 77
2011 Special Award Winner
Statement from the Award Committee
Core was a true pioneer with its blog and discussion boards. In those early days of the internet—and every day since Core has helped give voice to the design community by enabling a great democracy of voices to share their expertise on professional practice, design trends and the issues that affect the work we do.
Of course, Core is not just a blog and some message boards. Coroflot and the Design Directory have always been integral online tools for designers of all ages. The Off-Site Series, the One Hour Design Challenges, the Hack to School Guide and the 77 Under $77 Gift Guide are just a few examples of the inspirational and meaningful content Core has contributed to our profession.
The events Core sponsors—like the portfolio reviews and parties it has hosted at various IDSA conferences—are…well…they’re unlike any design event anywhere. And they’re never to be missed.
With the Hand-Eye Supply Store, the brick-and-mortar Core opened in Portland last year, and the Core77 Design Awards competition that debuted just a few weeks ago, Core continues to expand the ways it serves the global design community.
Over the years, the free-flowing exchanges on Core’s message boards have provided IDSA with very candid critiques that have been crucial to helping IDSA evolve. We are very proud to call Core77 both a peer and a partner. And we’d like to recognize their unparalleled achievements with this Special Award.
