Deceptive Design: Experiments in Furniture
October 10, 2008- January 4, 2009
Chicago Cultural Center, Michigan Ave. Galleries. 9am-7pm. FREE
The Chicago Chapter of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), in collaboration with the Chicago Furniture Designers Association (CFDA) present our first ever juried exhibition of design at the Chicago Cultural Center!
"The iconography of furniture and functional objects is often straightforward and simplistic. But, if certain qualities of furniture/objects are inherent for reasons of comfort, stability, use and manufacturing, where can the designer diverge from this tradition? Can furniture, and functional objects have other layers of meaning, purpose, use? With this in mind, can design be deceptive? The focus of this competition is to push the envelope of our common conceptions of furniture and furnishings and explore new roles for design."
