China? China! Special Limited Time Opportunity for Furniture Designers! Sept 3- 9 2011

Have you ever wanted to go to China but lacked the resources to do so? Here is your chance to become a sponsored furniture designer! Show your work at the 26th International Famous Furniture Fair (3F) Design Forum Sept 5 to 9, 2011 at Houjie, Dongguan, China

Design Brief:

IDSA in collaboration with the CDI Lifestyle Group and 3F China’s largest Famous Furniture Fair seeks to bring 3 American Mid-Range to Luxury Furniture Designers to participate in a special International Design Forum. The designers should have award winning designs in either commercial or residential furniture design. China is looking to develop their manufacturing relations with American Designers as they help their manufacturers to create new leading bands of their own. The CDI and 3F have generously offered to pay for the Hotel and Airfare for the American Designers who are chosen. In exchange the designers will be asked to give a 45 min. presentation on their work as well as commenting on how their unique designs fit into changing global trends for design and manufacturing. This opportunity is the first of its kind and is sure to attract attention for all who are involved!

To be eligible:

●      Must be available to travel to China September 3-9 2011

●      Must have a VALID Passport with more than 6 months before expiration at time of travel

●      Must be willing file for a China VISA

●      Must be 18 years or older

●      Must be available to travel to China 

●      Portfolios with award winning designs and or reputable production furniture are preferred

●      A current member of IDSA or willing to join IDSA

Please email your resume contact information and 3 JPG images of your work no larger than 500KB to idsafurniture@gmail.com If you have a website please include it in the email for further review. If the review committee likes your 3 images they will then go to your website. Those entries that are not formatted correctly will not be viewed.

Note: Please include [CDI Project] in your email title.

Deadline: August 12^th
The CDI will review the entries and contact potential winners to check their eligibility. While airfare and hotel costs are included, the winners will incur some incidental costs of their own.

About CDI and DFFA/3F:

CDI is a US-based importer for lifestyle products and an interior design service provider. CDI works with interior designers and industrial designers in U.S. to accomplish home furnishing and interior design projects for both corporate and residential clients. Over time, CDI has built an extensive network of designers and established sales channels in North America.

DFFA is a professional furniture association and a leading furniture trade fair organizer in China since 1999. It hosts three trade fairs twice a year in March and September. These three trade fairs are International Famous Furniture Fair (Dongguan) (3F), Dongguan Home Accents Fair (DHAF), and International Famous Furniture Woodworking and Machinery and Materials Fair (IFM). DFFA has 321 members including manufactures or suppliers of furniture, home accents, machinery and materials.

The DFFA and CDI share a mutual interest in creating opportunities for furniture manufactures and home furnishing suppliers in China, as well as furniture designers in U.S.. The parties believe that working collaboratively on this event will create mutually beneficial outcome about connecting two sides of demand chains, manufactures and consumers, directly in the international marketplace. They will be acting as co-organizers of its 2011 International Furniture Design Forum (the Forum) during the 26th International Famous Furniture Fair (3F), which will take place during Sept 5 to 9, 2011 at Houjie, Dongguan, China. The Forum will be a key component among all the 3F activities.

About IDSA:

IDSA has a small national staff based in the Washington, D.C. area which supports the member-driven activities of the Society. Connected to and collaborating with all other design societies, IDSA is discussing with them the formation of a U.S. design policy.
