2009 is the inaugural year for the Southern Honors Program. This juried awards program celebrates the past, present and future of Southern District design by honoring a single outstanding practicing designer, an outstanding educator and an outstanding student.
To honor the past, present and future of design in the West, we are announcing the first annual Western Honors Program. This award will honor the career of an outstanding Western designer and educator. A jury will be selected that is comprised of an educator, design consultant, corporate design leader, and IDSA board member. Noted designer and educator Michael McCoy will be serving on the jury this year. This is an opportunity to recognize the great talent that Western Design represents.
Some designers begin their design careers very early. But few get their start while they’re still wearing diapers. Asher Dunn is one of those few. The founder of Keeseh Studios reveals a bit more of his own life story and discusses a new way to build a collaborative design environment.
He’s fueled by coffee. He’s a blogger, a photographer and a graphic facilitator. He’s been known to take inspiration from classic Robert Palmer music videos. Somehow, “designer” doesn’t quite encapsulate Craighton Berman. But it is a good starting point for getting to know him.
If you really want to design for business, you may just have to relinquish a little bit of the idea of ownership of “your” design. Welcome to INNOVATION, the quarterly design publication of the Industrial Designers Society of America. INNOVATION reaches the IDSA membership, the CEOs of the Fortune 500 companies and many, many schools, associations and design offices around the world. Each issue is created around three basic goals; the first, to ensure quality in its content; the second, to make that content is exciting, both narratively and visually; and the third goal, to use INNOVATION as a vehicle for promoting dialogue within the design community. We encourage all IDSA members, or anyone who would like to get involved in the publication, to help INNOVATION achieve these ambitions.
