The IDSA Young Educator of the Year Award is presented in recognition of the contributions of younger faculty who have made the choice to dedicate their careers primarily to the education of the next generation of designers.  This new annual award will be presented to an IDSA member who has:

Del King, L/IDSA | Western Washington University

Professor King is the former CEO of Teague. Teague was founded in 1926 by Walter Dorwin Teague. It is an award-winning industrial design firm, internationally recognized for the past eight decades as a talented and creative team. Teague celebrated its 80th Anniversary in 2006 and continues to innovate with work for the likes of Boeing, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Panasonic, Samsung, Xbox, and Nike. Del King leads the senior industrial design studio.

2005 Carl Garant, IDSA

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Carl Garant attended the University of Illinois, Urbana, where he received his BFA (’70) and MFA (’74) in Industrial Design. Prior to attending graduate school he practiced industrial design both at corporate (Continental Can Corporation, General Motors) and consultancy (Dana Mox Assoc.) levels.

Bruce graduated from Pratt Institute in 1963, became a faculty member there and a full-time tenured professor in 1993, when he was appointed Chair of the Graduate Industrial Design Department.
