2007 Jury

Microsoft and IDSA have assembled a stellar group of industry experts to serve as jurors for this year's Next-Gen PC Design Competition.  The individuals who will be choosing this year's winners are:

Michelle Berryman, IDSA, founding principal, Echo Visualization, LLC

A founding Principal in the firm Echo Visualization, Michelle Berryman is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology holding a Bachelor of Science Industrial Design degree and a Master of Science focused on interaction design. She is an award-winning designer with a portfolio that includes exhibits, interiors, consumer products, software and user interfaces for consumer, medical and industrial products. Michelle enjoys merging environment design with interactive media and ubiquitous computing to create meaningful user experiences. She has worked for clients like Cooper Lighting, Electrolux, Sunbeam, Czarnowski, Coca-Cola, Medtronic, Nike, and Siemens.

In 2005, Michelle was named one of "10 Innovators You Should Know" by Deep magazine in its Southern by Design issue.

Michelle has been very active with the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) since 1993. She currently serves as President of IDSA's Board of Directors.


Ken Musgrave, IDSA, director, industrial design, Dell Inc.

Ken Musgrave, IDSA, has led the Industrial Design and Usability competencies at Dell Inc. in Austin, TX for the last five years. Before Dell, Ken was the Director of Product Design at Becton Dickinson, a medical technology company, where he also served in various product development and corporate marketing leadership roles. Ken holds an MBA from the University of Utah, an MS in Design from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a BS in industrial design from Auburn University.


 

 

George R. Daniels, IDSA, Group Manager, HP Enterprise Design and Usability Center
George was formerly with AMCD, Honeywell Info Systems, Group Bull, Compaq and now with HP serving in various design and management roles.  His primary responsibilities currently are the development of HP Enterprise Design Strategy, Vision and Industry-leading Usability features, as well as their tactical implementation for all HP Enterprise products, representing 1/3 of HP’s global business.  George holds a BS in Industrial Design from Ohio State University, is a past officer in the Texas Chapter of IDSA, responsible for HP’s Patron’s membership in the National IDSA organization and a former associate professor of Industrial Design at Arizona State University.  He also holds over 20 US patents and has been the recipient of numerous design awards world wide.

 


EunSook Kwon, PhD, IDSA, Associate Professor and Director, Industrial Design Program, College of Architecture, University of Houston
EunSook Kwon has developed the curriculum of the new ID program and built it as a hub for the design community in the southern United States. Kwon has published and lectured throughout the world about creative design thinking and design strategy development. She has consulted to numerous corporations, including Amore Pacific Co. and Samsung, and has conducted private educational programs for government agencies and corporations.
Kwon holds a BFA in industrial design from Seoul National University, master’s degrees in industrial design from Seoul National University (MFA) and the Ohio State University (MA), and a PhD in arts education from the Ohio State University.



Jeff Salazar, IDSA, Design Director, Lunar Design
As Design Director at Lunar, Jeff is responsible for shaping vision on projects and, as a key focus of his design philosophy, he is driven to explore and uncover opportunities for clients to create strong connections with their customers through compelling experiences and innovative product solutions that surprise and delight. He is passionate about infusing the highest design ideals and ensuring design quality throughout all aspects of the process that brings a product from cradle-to-use and beyond.
 

A California native from the San Francisco Bay Area, Jeff graduated with honors from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design. Jeff joined Lunar in 1994 and has since received numerous awards for his work, including IDSA’s Bronze IDEA award for Philips’ Velo Handheld CE and Intuitive Surgical’s DaVinci System; Silver IDEA awards for SanDisk Cruzer and Nova Cruz Xootr; and the highly coveted Gold IDEA award for the Nova Cruz eX3 Electric Scooter.


YaoYing Jia, Vice President, Innovation Design Center, Lenovo (Beijing)
In 1996, Yao Yingjia graduated from Qiqihaer University. He started his career in the industrial field as the first ID professional brought in by Lenovo, and in the past ten years Yao has continuously led the way of introducing brand new industrial design concepts to China’s IT field.

Establishing an organizational structure characterized by multi-disciplinary coordination, Yao Yingjia has created the idea of design based on local Chinese culture. As a forceful tool of sharpening Lenovo’s competitive edge to stand out of its peers in the market, the company’s design structure and ideas of design have shed profound referential light on local Chinese design organizations. Having won a variety of reputable international design awards under Yao’s leadership, Lenovo has laid a platform where more domestic industrial designs are able to demonstrate themselves and compete with foreign peers, which contributes to the better understanding of China's design work from the international design community.


Ares Marasligiller, IDSA, Director, LPK Product
Ares Marasligiller leads LPK’s product design group through a holistic approach to product development applying his understanding of cultural nuances, people and trends cultivated via his lifelong travels across three continents.

With nearly 20 years of diverse product design experience in the consumer product categories of beauty care and healthcare, among others, Marasligiller has led numerous strategic assignments resulting in cutting-edge solutions for global companies.

Marasligiller graduated from Ecole Superieure de Design Industrial (ESDI), Paris, France, and has held design positions in both the United States & Europe. Marasligiller is fluent in English, French, German, Armenian and Turkish.

Design honors credited to Marasligiller include the highly prestigious 2001 London International Advertising Award for the redesign of Pantene, the world’s #1 hair care brand.


Junghoon Lee, Director & Chief Designer, LG Electronics
 Junghoon Lee currently leads the US Design Lab of LG Electronics, driven by a core focus on design through customer insight. With his knowledge of business and technology, and a design sensibility forged from 15 years experience as a practical designer; he posses the ability to transform insight into tangible objects.

His career as a display designer has covered a diverse array of products from 71” Plasma televisions to 4” CRT televisions. This design fluency applied to the arena of Design Strategy and Business Development has led to new business opportunities.

Junghoon Lee has both a Masters in Business Administration from Helsinki School of Economics, and a BA from Hong-ik University in Seoul for Industrial Design.
