Oct. 17-20, 2007
The CONNECTING’07 Icsid/IDSA World Design Congress is more than the sum of the sessions; it is surrounded by events at design studios, companies, museums, design schools and stores. Design events will precede and follow the Congress, and the San Francisco Bay area offers lots of opportunities for you to create new connections to people and places.

Opening Celebration
The Celebration of 50 Years of Icsid is our opening event. The stained glass window in the atrium of the Masonic Center is an event to behold; you can enjoy it as you meet your friends, before you make your way into the generous auditorium for the celebration.

Studio and Company Tours
On Thursday afternoon and evening, we are asking the design consultancies and companies around San Francisco to open their doors to you, so that you can see where people work and talk to the “locals” about design.

A fun and entertaining way to visit these studios is to join the Defenders of Design game, which will guide you through the city to several open houses while solving missions during a high-stakes mscape adventure game. See below for more details.
Receptions
On Friday evening we are arranging receptions and open houses at the museums, design schools and stores in San Francisco, to give you the chance to form your own impressions of the San Francisco design culture.
Awards Ceremony and Closing Party
On Saturday afternoon, we will return to the Masonic Auditorium for the IDEA awards presentation and a ceremonious closing moment. Then we head down to the waterfront at Fort Mason for an evening of feasting and fun, with fabulous music and plenty of dancing.

The IBM Ultimate International Derby
Design, build and race your Pinewood-Derby car against other enthusiasts and see who takes the first world prize! We apply the Boy Scouts rules for design, more or less. Check out Priority Designs' derby video by clicking here.

Register by October 5, 2007. Download the rules and registration form.

You won’t want to miss this year’s Portfolio Review, sponsored again by Core77, which will be bigger than ever. Check back for an updated list of companies participating in the Portfolio Review. If you’re interested in participating in the Portfolio Review—either as a student/young professional or a reviewer representing a company—just check the Portfolio Review box on your conference registration form. You must be registered for CONNECTING’07 to participate in the Portfolio Review.

Defenders of Design: An mscape Adventure Game  (presented by Hewlett-Packard and The Go Game)
Join Hewlett-Packard and The Go Game to play Defenders of Design, an exciting and interactive game that will send you flying through the streets of San Francisco. Outfitted with an iconic HP iPAQ Travel Companion and web enabled mobile phone, you and your impromptu team of fellow design heroes will zip around the city solving missions on this non-stop adventure. You'll visit local design studios, interact with undercover operatives, take creative photos and videos, and quite possibly save the world as we know it. The game will end at fun parties around the city featuring live presentations and killer prizes provided by HP.

To pre-register, click here. Registration will also be open Wednesday-Friday in the Masonic Center.
